ABSTRACT
The Antirogo River, a tributary of Bedadung River in Jember Regency, flows through agricultural and densely populated residential areas. Nutrient inputs from fertilizer runoff and domestic waste potentially increase the trophic status of this river. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition, density of diatom genera, and the trophic level of the Antirogo River using the Trophic Diatom Index (TDI). Sampling of epilithic diatoms and water physicochemical parameters was conducted at five stations from the upstream, midstream, to downstream section. Diatom data were analyzed for composition, density of diatom genera and the trophic level according to TDI, and the physicochemical parameters were analyzed to determine the river quality based on WQI. The results identified 28 epilithic diatom genera belonging to 20 families and 12 orders. The highest diatom density was found at station 2 (146.700 ind/cm2) and the lowest at station 3 (56.600 ind/cm2). The trophic status across the five stations, classified as oligotrophic (station 2), oligo-mesotrophic (stations 1,3,4) and mesotrophic (station 5) with TDI scores ranging from 33,82-51,25. This trophic status was supported by WQI scores between 61,20-66,27, classifying the water as medium quality. In conclusion based on the composition, density of diatom, and TDI, the Antirogo River is classified as oligo-mesotrophic with an overall mean score of 42,57.
