ABSTRACT
Zingiberaceae, the largest family within the order Zingiberales, comprises numerous species of economic and medicinal importance. However, members of this family often exhibit similar morphological characteristics, making species identification in their natural habitats challenging, particularly when reproductive structures are absent. This study aimed to document wild Zingiberaceae species occurring in the Andongrejo Resort of Meru Betiri National Park and to assess their phenetic relationships using morphometric data. Specimens were characterized using both qualitative and quantitative traits, primarily based on vegetative organs because flowering structures were not available for all individuals. Seven species of wild Zingiberaceae were identified. Seven species of wild Zingiberaceae were identified: Zingiber purpureum Roscoe, Zingiber zerumbet subsp. zerumbet (Gagnep.) Triboun & K.Larsen, Globba pendula Roxb., Curcuma longa L., Curcuma zedoaria Roscoe, Wurfbainia compacta (Sol. ex Maton) Škorničk. & A.D.Poulsen, and Amomum maximum Roxb. Phenetic relationships among the species were inferred using a Neighbor-Joining analysis of binary morphological data, resulting in three major clusters. Two clusters corresponded to species belonging to the same genera, namely Curcuma and Zingiber, reflecting their morphological affinity. Globba pendula formed a separate lineage but exhibited closer phenetic similarity to species of Amomum and Wurfbainia than to the other genera examined. Additionally, quantitative analysis of color intensity was incorporated as a morphological character and proved effective in providing discriminative data for species delimitation.
